James Doolin

American, (1932–2002)


James Doolin was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1932. He attended the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Pratt Institute, New York University and the University of California in Los Angeles. He worked as a commercial artist and painted in his spare time before teaching in Melbourne. Doolin had his first solo exhibition at Gallery A in Australia. In 1980, he received a Guggenheim Fellowship in Painting and later received three National Endowment for the Arts Grants. He is well known for his saturated depictions of natural and urban landscapes. He died in Los Angeles, California in 2002.
